Migrating Snow Geese

This shot is taken from Gray Lodge; a nature preserve approximately 60 miles NW of Sacramento in Northern California. The wetlands of this preserve provide a landing/resting spot for migratory bird species. There were literally thousands of Snow geese in this wetland preserve. When they took off, which was fairly frequently, they darkened the sky and the sound was quite amazing.

The mountain range in the background is Sutter Buttes - the smallest mountain range in the world. It is a totally isolated geologic feature caused by ancient volcanism and geological pressures. The range is 10s of millions of years old and can be seen from as far as 100 miles away (on a clear day of course).

Enjoy!

This is the 4th of my backblips from my trip...
