Blown Glass Ornament

This is the ornament I made today at Gossamer Glass studio. Brian Kerkvliet is the glass blower who lives and works at this place. He and his family have a wonderful organic farm there as well as his studio and a store where the public can see and buy Brian's work. We know the family quite well due to many visits and the fact that our two younger cats came from there. In fact we saw their mother Sneaky today while we were there.

Before Christmas Brian always offers ornament blowing sessions for people who want to make their own ornaments. Arvin, Steve and I went there today and each made an ornament. This is mine. The hands are Brian's. He gathers the glass and rolls it over the glass pieces and frit that you choose to have in the ornament. Then he starts the blow and you finish it up. He then takes it off the pipe and adds a hanging ring of glass. Into the annealing oven it goes for twelve hours. We'll pick our finished ornaments up tomorrow.

Take a look at the picture in large. You can see more photos from the day at Chaikins of Bellingham. I'm about to upload to my blog now. If you don't see any photos, wait a moment and look again.

We had a great day.
