Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2

Jamie and me, we went to Glasgow's City Halls this afternoon to see Denis Kozhukhin play Prokofiev's second piano concerto with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martyn Brabbins. It was part of a series called Discovering Music and the first half of the concert consisted of Stephen Johnson talking about the concerto, interviewing the soloist and conductor along the way. Then there was an interval. Then in the second half we got the full concerto performed uninterrupted. Totally captivating, totally engaging, and we were witness to a superlative performance of one of the hardest pieces of piano music ever written. And it didn't cost us a penny. Unless you count the petrol. And the cost of a new tyre that I will surely have to buy after I got a flat tyre driving over a pothole in Sighthill on the way back to Edinburgh.
