Dept. of Public Works (Retro)

This is the D.P.W. building at the local "transfer station", where we regularly leave our waste and recyclables. These places were known in my youth simply as "the dump", and this building probably dates more or less from that era.

It's worth viewing this large to inspect some of the details. There's the red sign PLEASE PUT BUTTS HERE--still with a pail for receiving them. I find it amusing that the capital letters EQUIPMENT REPAIR have dainty dots over the i's.

The words on the white NOTICE are AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY, and on the small yellow sign on the left: [N]O PARKING/ [T]OW ZONE
