Livi Pure Fun Skate Collective...

The last weekend in June is traditionally for about 15 odd years been the dates upon which the Livi Pure Fun Skate Party is held. That would be this weekend and it is just a massive national skate session with a few customary events, camping, a lot of skating and the odd swally.

My opinion is that it had outgrown itself. In this information superhighway world, the skate party had attracted more pedestrianised public than was arguably needed and this resulted in a lot of people coming along for the camping and swally sections of the the weekend and completely bypassing the fun and skate sections which it is really about and in some extreme cases completely going against everything the event is about and starting up some pretty nasty trouble.

This year, there was no centrally organised event. That is there was nobody informing the council, organising of PortaLoos and bins, no sound system.

I'm glad it has come to this. For one Kenny Omond, who has done a sterling job organising it since it's inception can lay down his sword and hopefully the event will lose the appeal of the non-skaters and return to the skaters.

It will be interesting to see what happens tonight and how busy it will get.
