Cormorant

One of the great things about Carradale Harbour is its suitability for blipping in all weathers and at all times of year. From the car park that looks onto the harbour an array of wildlife can often be seen.

So today, when its wet and miserable, I parked up for a while and watched the Eider Ducks, Herring Gulls, Mergansers, Crows, seals and Cormorants. I would really like to get a good blip of an Eider Duck, but they never seem to leave the water, just bobbing about in the grey light and making a decent blip impossible.

At least the Cormorants have the decency to leave the water and stand almost statuesque for Mr Blipper. The RSPB site mentions that they have an almost primitive appearance and I have to agree. When this one flapped its wings to get its balance it did look a bit like a flying prehistoric reptile. If you look in LARGE you will see it has a ring on its right leg, which is interesting.

I was torn between this blip and one of the same Cormorant as it left the water Drookit and looking very sorry for itself!

Have a good blipday all!
