They, not sure who exactly, say if you have flowers before Christmas it is going to be a wonderful summer.
We have the flowers but we dont have the summer, so bring it on...
This is our local New Zealand Christmas tree, Maori say if you cut one down or cut the flowers, you will cause someone to die. Hence we just admire them where they stand!
