Andean Nativity 'Belen'

Finally we get to display our Peruvian nativity!

We were in Peru in April and bought this set in the old Inca city of Cusco.

With the Spanish influence, Nativity Scenes (or 'Belens' as they are called, after Bethlehem), are really common in Peru. This one makes a change from typical Spanish ones here which are rather ornate.

Love the naive style of this - so simple.

It's displayed on an authentic Alpaca cape - the women in the mountain use these to carry their babies, or shopping - all sorts. Hard to find these original ones with natural dyes.

Happy memories!
