Wellington

The main bit of todays feast, beef wellington. Made with much care including a pancake and a proper mushroom duxelle, though with pre-rolled pastry (I'm not very good at puff pasrty). Very tasty indeed.

Prior to that we had some oysters and then a lobster thermidor with braised fennel. Never had thermidor sauce before and I wasn't convinced that a thick cheesy sauce was going to match the lightness of the lobster but it I was wrong.

Jen made bloody mary's with clamato juice, even better than big tom! She also made a very nice white russian before we moved on to pouilly-fume to go with the lobster.

Beef wellington came with horseradish and garlic mash and roasted chestnuts, red sprouts and smoked bacon lardons. Unfortuately for Jen, having had only 5 hors sleep after a 16 hour shift the day before, she missed the main as she was fast asleep on the sofa and couldn't be budged.
