Red Kite

This is probably a product of the red kite breeding programme at Harewood House that I believe was a millennium project there.

Since then the number of kites has steadily increased, but it is very rare that we see them here - which is about 20 miles away from Harewood as the kite flies.

This morning a pair flew across our back garden and seemed to be very interested in something in a field to the north of the village, so I trotted round there and managed to get a few shots, although they were still a good way away.

I've taken better photographs, but at least this shows the colouring of these magnificent birds. Maybe if they like the place they'll decide to nest here next spring...we can but hope.
