Winter solistice- shortest day

I was going to blip the sun going down behind Stirling Castle on the shortest day.

No chance. No sun. If you blinked you would miss what little daylight we have had.

It's been a dreich, miserable, cold and wet day.

So, all I have is a solitary golfer (will these guys never give up?) playing alone in the rain on the Bridge of Allan golf course.

Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day which occurs exactly when the axial tilt of the Earth's polar hemisphere is farthest away from the Sun.

On a practical level it means that from today we will begin to have more daylight.
