Daisy

Sweet Briar Collage for girls today. This is the monument for Daisy, the founders' daughter. It was hauntingly beautiful, up on Monument Hill. An old and crumbling stone wall surrounded the thing, and there were several other graves.

Daisy was the founders' daughter, and she tragically died at age 15 or 16, can't remember. Her parents wanted her to have an education, but she died too early. As a tribute to her, her parents stated in their will that Sweet Briar Plantation was to be turned in to a college for girls. The near 3500 acre plantation is now the beautiful home of the Sweet Briar Vixens (founded 1901).

Incredible tour and great riding program, though not as personal as I had hoped (the riding, I mean)

Will link to a slideshow when I get it up.
