Twelve Days of Xmas Eve

Every Christmas Eve, I make a fancy dinner for my wonderful friends.

This year I decided to make a somewhat whimsical Xmas dinner of small tapas-like dishes based on the Twelve Days of Christmas.

(The Ten Lords of Salmon Leaping Upstream is out of order, but I couldn't make it work otherwise.)

10 Lords a-Leaping-- Corn Pancakes with Smoked Salmon
1 Partridge in a Pear Tree-- Poached Pear Salad with Arugula and Prosciutto
2 Turtledoves-- Black Turtle-bean Soup with Lime Cream

3 French Hens-- Chicken Leg with Garlic Sauce
4 Colly Birds-- Quail in Red Wine-Balsamic Vinegar Sauce
5 Golden Rings-- Butternut Squash Gnuddi with Sage Butter
6 Geese a-Laying-- Asparagus with Poached Egg

7 Swans a-Swimming-- Orange Ile Flotante
8 Maids a-Milking-- Salted Caramel Ice-cream
9 Ladies Dancing-- Lady Apple Tarte Tatin
11 Pipers Piping-- Chocolate-dipped Cigarettes Russes
12 Drummers Drumming-- Coffee Pot de Creme

We sang the next verse with every dish. Of course with a lot of champagne and wine, it became a set of lyrics sung with gusto: "five golden blobs, four quail-y birds, three garlic hens, two turtle-bean soups, and prosciutto in a pear salad--and ten lords leaping upstream..."
