Regatta?

Paradise Shelduck, Tadorna variegata. A large duck endemic to New Zealand.

Something rather strange was going on in this dam. The female stood on one leg on the post while eight males paddled slowly up and down. She watched them as they went, and because I was there, she kept up a loud screech and honking warning cry.

I looked out before dawn and saw stars, for the first time in a long while. Hoping to see the comet I grabbed my camera and drove to a place that has a good view east. But it was cloudy. There were no stars in that direction.
