My Year

Solar Panels

Love 'em or hate 'em, solar panels have been sprouting on UK rooves for the past two years, ever since they were introduced by Gordon Brown, just as the much sunnier Germans and Spanish were closing down their schemes, as they are a complete waste of money.

These installations were receiving a payment for producing electricity at a rate which was 4 times the cost of buying electricty. The owner also saved on his electricity, by the small amount these things produced, and they had a payment for selling electricity to the National Grid, estimated at half the electricity produced.

Oh, and it was all paid for by the rest of us, through higher electricity bills. Nice one Gordon!

Thankfully, David Cameron has more sense and the subsidy is to be halved.

There, that's my rant for the day over.
