the cup in the foreground

I realise it might not be particularly easy to write things for films and that most films start out as written things somewhere and that these days a lot of the decisions concerning content and titling might be made by expressionlessly-foreheaded people with silly shoes in shiny offices but... surely anyone converting a book to a film (who must therefore have at least read the book) might realise that somewhere between the second and third draft they cut out the bit of the book which informed or explained the title which the film is due to retain and that there might be little point retaining the title? A film might have to be called something and large chunks of the book might remain intact down to faithfully-reproduced dialogue but people might at least consider calling the film something else and just sticking a "heavily based on thingby by blokey" on the poster when the title itself has become unexplained by the content.
