Touch and go

So much for a lazy Sunday morning!

Heard a commotion in the garden first thing and Bonnie (our whippet) had found a new play friend. Unfortunately it was this little chick that has obviously fallen from a nest close by. Although at this time of year they do get chucked out by the parents in a "sink or swim" attempt at encouraging them to fly, this one looks too young so it probably got too close to the edge.

After me, Jan, and the kids chasing the dog around the garden Benny Hill style with the chick hanging from her mouth we finally rescued it.

After wiping off the dog spit and offering it a worm for breakfast it seems surprisingly sprightly. The shock may get it in the end but at the moment it's alive. We've called the RSPCA who are coming round to pick her up. Not the RSPB because they don't do bird rescue strangely enough they leave it to the RSPCA. We know this because of the carnage from all the ducklings we have in the garden each year which get picked off by the crows and magpies.

All this has completely put me off my bacon sarnie!
