Orange bushes for Chinese New Year

Rows and rows of bushes bearing tangerines (I thunk) for sale leading up to he Chinese New year.

I'm not a horticulturist - clementines, small oranges I'm not a 100% sure although I'm pretty sure they're not satsumas as they're from Japan.

These had just been unloaded, in Shekou district of Shenzhen, today ready for the biggest festival in the Chinese calendar the Lunar New Year.

This orange fruit is called juzi and it's popular because of how the Chinese character is written. The first consonant ju which includes the character for good fortune which is fu. Often characters that use the same radical (root) have a similar sound. As is the case with ju (zi) and fu.

If you don't already know next year will be the year of the dragon. There'll be more photos related to Chinese New Year over the next couple of weeks. I won't be able to avoid it!

Can you eat them your'e thinking... well... you can. If you really want to but they don't taste that good.
