Meet Sandy

This is a Roman coin. I have a small number, but this is one of my few silver ones. Each one is a miniature work of art (have you ever really looked at the coins in your pocket?)

This coin dates from 232AD Yup....just the one year a looooong time ago.

I've uploaded it mainly because a friend was wanting to know how to photograph coins....but also because I love the little pieces of metal. They're pretty :)

For those interested the coin is a RIC 246
Severus Alexander Denarius. 232 AD. IMP ALEXANDER PIVS AVG, laureate draped bust right, seen from front / MARS VLTOR, Mars advancing right, carrying spear and shield.

You can check them (and loads of other ancient coin types) out on the wonderful Wildwinds website

information on photography:
f/3.5 1/38sec ISO 800 focal length 16mm max aperture 3.6 (whatever that is)

I take photos of coins in a small round black cardoard box (with a soft sheen so its neither matt nor shiny), lit from above if needed, or with a daylight light source. Using a flash just bounces the metal back at you.
