Rocket (Eruca sativa)

Today was especially warm and sunny, so warm in fact that I was too hot gardening in just a shirt and cardigan! One could feel the heat of the sun and it is only January. The blackbirds were singing their April song. But all change at the week-end!

There are several flowers out in the garden including a few primroses, crocus, pansies, rosemary and this beautiful rocket flower. Used by the Romans, rocket was considered an aphrodisiac. In the language of flowers it represents Deceit since it gives out a perfume only in the evening and not during the day. It was also known as the Vesper Flower.

Supermarket shop in the morning, gardening in the afternoon and then after I had fed the cats I walked to the top of the lane to collect our neighbour's little girl off the school bus as her parents were going to be late returning from Southampton.
