The first day of the rest of your life

Today is the penultimate day for submission of the UCAS form for application to Uni in 2012. For parents it is the culmination of months of advising, cajoling, discussing, sleepless nights, worry, anxiety and at times naked aggression and bald threats.

For Adam the process has been aggravated by the fact that he is applying from a foreign country and navigating a school system that is not overly familiar with Scottish Universities and complicated further by his choice of course demanding a portfolio on top of high end marks and recommendation from his teachers.

His favoured Uni's Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Napier are fiendishly difficult to get into for the subject he has chosen, Product Design, but if you don't lift your eyes from the horizon you will never see the stars.

I know I speak as a parent but if there is any justice in this process, the lad deserves a chance. If not then it is back to the drawing board, literally !
