Christmas Rose

Unfortunately I don't have a garden, just a balcony. So sometimes I sneak off to blip my neighbour's gardens through the fences. Today I found this beautiful Christmas rose. It's Latin name is Helleborus niger, 'black hellebore', and it always makes me wonder. Is it because the plant is poisonous? In Germany, they are called 'Christrose' or 'Schneerose (Snow rose)'. Well, that one at least is obvious.

Weather changed from rain to hailstorm. Oh dear.
