The one that got away

I spent a very interesting hour been interviewed by my 11 year old grandson for a school project on ' what was in like living in Britain during and immediately after the second world war'. One thing discussed was the cutting down of metal railings in our town and cities to make a contribution to our metal needs. We then went for a walk in Bristol and found numerous stubs remains of metal railings on walls everywhere. But here one a bit that escaped obviously because it was attached to the street sign. Sadly much of the metal was not used because it was the 'wrong type'. Pity they didn't find out before they desecrated beautiful and ornate railings across our communities.
