Stopped here on our way home from a birthday week-end in London.The Lincolnshire fens have numerous Abbeys and a variety of religious orders that were given what was at the time very difficult and remote land to tame and drain.

Croyland (Crowland) Abbey was a monastery of the Benedictine Order in Lincolnshire, sixteen miles from Stamford and thirteen from Peterborough. It was founded in memory of St. Guthlac, early in the eighth century, by Ethelbald, King of Mercia,
