A Room with a View

We moved into this house ten years ago, almost to the day. One of the main reasons we bought it was the lovely view from the living room, our bedroom, and the upstairs bedroom that Phil and I share as our office.

Even on a day like today, when it has snowed off and on since early morning, with more snow forecast, we still enjoy this view. Here's a snippet of what we saw earlier today.

The area behind our house and others on our side of the development cannot be built on because it is a reserve tract, dedicated to filtering our neighborhood's stormwater run-off, and eventually will be part of a City of Bellingham trail between Lake Padden Park and Whatcom Falls Park.

Phil's son, T, came up yesterday for an overnight visit and belated holiday gift exchange. Among my gifts from him was a box of Fran's Chocolates truffles -- very timely, as Phil and I had finished the Chocolate Necessities truffles on New Year's Day.

The Seattle-based eponymous Fran (Bigelow) has been credited with "sparking the artisan chocolate renaissance in the United States," according to the company's website. In an interesting coincidence, both T and my son, W, worked at Fran's retail stores in the past, although not at the same time.

We have had two or three more inches of snow already today (I'm writing this at just before 3 pm my time) and are now in the midst of a "winter storm watch," with two to six more inches of snow forecast for tonight and a "significant snow event" on Wednesday, bringing additional accumulations of six to twelve inches.

I don't think those truffles are going to last too long.

(Added 9:37pm PST: Take a look at Phil's journal for today here to see him with his son and a link in the text to another snow photo. It is still snowing, and we may get as much as 3-7 inches Weds. during the day and 8-12 inches that night.)
