Katie Morag

Wee C came home with a letter today telling us about the 'Stage Assembly' that the primary 2s are leading for the parents at the end of January. The theme is 'Katie Morag' (a character in a series of Scottish children's books) and apparently the kids will be performing songs and dances etc.

They also have to have a costume, and wee C has to come dressed as Katie Morag herself, along with about a dozen other P2 girlies, I imagine. I had to google 'Katie Morag' to find out what she wears because although I have actually read a couple of the books, I had no recollection of her outfit...

Apparently, stereotypically, it's a kilt, a woolly Aran-style jumper and a pair of wellies - relatively painless for a change.

Found this ancient handed-down children's kilt in a box upstairs, amazingly it fits wee C round the middle but is half-way down her shins. We'll need to see if Granny can take it up a couple of inches. I found a cream woolly jumper on eBay for about a fiver. And every Scottish kid has wellies anyway. Job done!
