What is it?

I found this today in a charity shop. It has a pretty pattern on the other side so I thought it would make a good prop for flower photographs. The top is concave, it has a spout and the back, as you can see, is completely open. I thought it was a holder for a nightlight but there are no smoke marks inside and that wouldn't require a spout. It has no marks on the bottom.
Any thoughts?
