Carriglas

This is Carriglas 'the farm of the grey green rock', I love the Irish
language, the place name meanings are so beautifully descriptive. This
is Rachel, who was born in this cottage, she is seventeen today! We
rented Carriglas when we came to Ireland, just in the winter, as it was a
holiday cottage and was let to visitors in the summer, which was fine
as we camped on the land!
The nineteenth of January 1995 was a really wild and stormy night, the
power lines were down, so no electricity. The midwife was coming from
Killarney, which involved crossing two mountain passes to get to us,
Fair play to her, she made it, just in time for the birth! All went well
and Rachel was welcomed into the world  by her sister who was
delighted, mum, dad and friend bella. I'm so glad too have had a home
birth, it was the right choice for us as a family. Dom had baked bread,
while I was in labour, breakfast had never tasted so good!
Well today Rachel and I went for a birthday lunch and this evening she
is off to the cinema with her friends!
