John Ruskin 1819 - 1900

A rather damaged sculpture of the philosopher/critic.
He was the the prime inspiration behind the NeoGothic architecture in Christchurch which has suffered so badly in all the earthquakes.

Written around the base of the statue:
"No human being, however great or powerful was ever so free as a fish"

Unfortunately the creek nearby, and most of the other ones around town, have dried up, so no free fish anymore.

A few minutes later I was biking through town, dazed by the continuing destruction and demolition, and I went through a red light. Prang! But no real harm done. What a start to the working year.
