Northern Exposure

Shaken but not stirred.

This is what the bright lights of Kirkwall look like when you're sitting waiting for the recovery vehicle to bring your car back from the scene of a crash. Taking the pic was a distraction from the evening's events, focus was not something I was bothered about.

No one was hurt!

Steven had been on his way home from work and the weather got the better of the car. Strong wind and a layer of hailstones on the road sent him spinning into the dyke at the roadside. Thankfully no one else was involved and Steven was unhurt.

Oblivious to what had happened I passed shortly afterwards on my way to town with a car full of kids. The sight of our car battered and torn in a ditch with no-one around wasn't one I'll forget in a hurry. Fortunately he was sitting in the police car just up the road so we didn't have to worry where and how he was for too long... but it was long enough!

I think we spent the rest of the evening in a daze of practicalities. Kids were dropped off at various activities ( not sure why we didn't abandon everything but I think it helped keep everyone calm), crumpled cars were removed from the road side, details were dealt with and friends helped out. Thanks everyone!
