Preston Station at night

Half way (sort of) between Glasgow and London, Preston station was originally provided with extensive catering provision to allow passengers to eat midway in their journeys. Before the days of restaurant cars, Anglo-Scottish trains stopped to 20 minutes to allow passengers to get food. On the train this evening, a hot meal was provided.

Here the train is at platform heading towards Euston.
