Snowy Benachie

It's pronounced Ben-a-hee. Yes, I know. When we moved up here from Glasgow at first I had no idea what people were saying. The local dialect is doric and I knew I was a 'local' the day I went into Inverurie and understood what the old men who gather around the door of the Dairy every morning were saying.

Fit like? means how are you; a girl is a quine and a boy is a loon; your teeth are in you mou, you listen with your lugs and wear sheen on your feet. Never mind the past being another country, 160 miles from Glasgow and you'd be lucky to undertand a word.

So, here is Benachie with a light covering of snaa.
