Serious Rain

Sadly the camera doesn't do this justice...

It is hard to describe what it is like when Brisbane has a big rain event. It is a kind of combination of monsoon and a lack of preparation. I say that because unlike places that can rely on a monsoon every year, here in Brisbane it can be hit and miss. After last years floods and the loss of life that went with it, the folk in our region are understandably just a little bit nervous.

Our place on the bayside has had 130mm in the past 30 hours or so. If the weather reports are to be believed, we can expect between 200 and 400 more mm. I would be looking toward the lower end of the scale but that is still a whole lot of rain.

Fortunately at this stage the worst of the rain is very coastal...where we live. Last year it pushed a couple of hundred km inland and that was the straw that broke the camels back.

My uneducated guess is localised flooding, especially around high tide (which is of course very big at the moment!). Jo and I are safe where we are. No creeks around here except maybe for the one going through our backyard.

Riding home on the bike this evening was fun...
