Rock Photography

Hopeless day for photography.

I managed to pop into the exhibition of Rock Photography by Harry Papadopoulos at Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow.

Harry began his photogrtaphic career in his hometown of Glasgow standing outside the Apollo selling his newly developed shots to gig-goers (He took the shots the previous night at the Edinburgh show!). He moved on to London and from 1979 to 1984 was staff photographer for Sounds music weekly where he provided numerous front covers.

His photographs cover the post punk era, from Blondie to David Bowie; the Associates to Devo; then New Order, Bryan Ferry, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Birthday Party, The Cramps, The Clash. Altered Images etc etc. His London flat became home to fellow Scottish migrants Orange Juice, Aztec Camera, Josef K and the Bluebells.

If you are passing (Trongate 103) its well worth a visit. Unlike a lot of exhhibitions I have visited there are a lot more than just a handful of images on display.
