A year since the revolution...

This giant flag stretched from close to Luxor's heritage centre down the road for more than 200 yards. Both Europeans and Egyptians helped to carry it. It was part of the revolutionary celebrations that culminated in an entertainment at Luxor's Conference centre, where the governor presented medals to people injured in Tahrir Square. The event also involved local singers and poets, an Egyptian orchestra, and several dance routines.

The anniversary in Luxor was peaceful, with only one small demonstation where the road beside the Nile was blocked for several hours - not a serious problem though. I'm utterly disgusted by the recent report on BBC 6pm News where the reporter presented a totally biassed view of what life in Luxor is like. The main feature of that program was a bar where alcohol sales were stopped because of the fear of waiters of "The men in beards", when in fact no alcohol has been served there for over 9 months, since the owner was banned from doing so because he had no licence to sell alcohol. It really does show the agenda that the British government is trying to set (in close association with the US of course) about Islamism without any understanding of what it means to Egypt.
