Adobe Window

This is an image from the Adobe located in Santa Clara on the campus of Santa Clara University. The Adobe Lodge, currently serving as the Santa Clara University Faculty and Staff Club, was built in 1822 and is the only adobe brick building remaining from the original Santa Clara Mission establishment. The Adobe Lodge was completely restored in 1981. However, the wall that this window occupies is original and I always marvel at the design. Note how deep or wide the adobe wall is around the window. This provides amazing insulation from hot summer days and cold winter evenings. The view of the inside shows a table set that is pretty close to the same decor of 1822. The lights are electric, but the old candle shape bulbs are used to provide the same hue of light as a candle. The glass in the window is historic glass which shows those ripples due to the process for making them - not as perfect as it is now, but this glass can be made for replication/historical purposes. It's really a beautiful building and design and I will try to provide more images of it over time for your pleasure.

The weekend is approaching...

Enjoy!
