Vertical Burst!

The village of Hamble played an important part in aviation history and this is a tribute to Hamble's Aviation Pioneers:

A.V. Roe who developed the first aircraft control column, and the Avro 504.
Bert Hinkler who developed the Ibis Amphibian.
Roy Chadwick who designed the famous Avro Lancaster Bomber.
Alan Cobham, test pilot and aerial photographer, who established Cobham's Flying Circus featuring wing walkers and novelty turns.
and - Queen of the Air - Amy Johnson - first woman in Britain to be granted the Air Ministry's ground engineers licence and famous for her 1930 attempt at solo flying to Australia in a Gypsy Moth.

This sculpture is the centrepiece of Avro Court estate built in 2004 and many of the roads in the area are named after aviators.
