The Royal Bank of Scotland bridge, Gogarburn

A few years ago, Edinburgh was full of pride when the Royal Bank of Scotland group opened (in 2005) their world headquarters at Gogarburn (not far from me).

The group controls the Royal Bank of Scotland plc, founded in 1727 by a Royal Charter of King George I, the National Westminster Bank, which can trace its lineage back to 1650, and Ulster Bank in Ireland. The registered head office of the group and the UK clearing bank are located at St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.

Before the 2008 collapse and the general financial crisis, RBS Group was very briefly the largest bank in the world.

However, due in part to the mismanagement (and grasping greed) by many people including Fred the Shred (strip him of his Knighthood please!), this once great banking group, which is now over 80% owned by us hard pressed taxpayers is at the centre of a political argument over bonuses. Come one Mr Hester, surely an annual salary of £1.2 million pounds is enough to live on ... just give us back our bonus!

Enough of ranting - hope everyone has had a happy Sunday irrespective of whether or not you have been offered a £1m bonus!

Oh, by the way, check out my invisible blip for yesterday, I had to blip it early this morning!
