Thy Acrid Teardrop

Make and Mend

Today has mostly revolved around Danté but that's as it should be since he is the most important thing when we're together.

So he's been out and fed in the morning. Then he slept (snored) until 12pm - lazy or what? Got up had a drink then a good long walk. Got back home and then went to fix the fence.

Uh...what? A fence? What's that got to do with the day revolving around Danté? Well, it was the garden fence through which he has been gleefully escaping over the last few days.

I've done a rather botched repair job using a couple of old 'sitootsideandeat' chairs, a bit of old fencing wire, some string and quite a lot of ancient washing line rope. The photo is of said botched repair with who else but Danté himself trying to figure out if he can find a way through.

Eventually he did manage to squeeze himself through a seemingly impossibly small gap but not where I did the repair, oh no. He went down under the bushes until he found another weak spot in the fence and then somehow, with much snapping of twigs and scrabbling noises, got through.

I have to say at this point he looked delighted with himself while I was torn between wanting to laugh and wanting to cry. Don't be fooled either, Danté is not a small dog, he's 21kg of muscle, the height of a flat-coat retriever and the width of a slim labrador.

When he came back (for a treat of course) I went in under the bushes, patched up the new escape route and blocked it up....While he went looking for another one.

All before 3pm.
