Arrival in Rio

Alex, Mike, and I met up in the Charlotte airport and hopped a flight down to Rio, arriving this morning to a city encased in fog. Driving in a taxi from the airport, we passed through two tunnels and the Lagoa, but Corcovado was so shrouded in clouds, Cristo Redentor was not visible.

When we arrived at the Mar Ipanema, the skies opened up, and we took shelter inside until our rooms were assigned. After last summer, this area of Rio feels familiar to me, which is nice after a long over-night flight and the feeling that you have left behind comfort and familiarity for adventure and new experiences.

Perhaps it's the rain, or the sleepiness of travel, but we are probably going to lie low today and conquer the city in the morning.
