City Day

Christchurch city was encased in cloud as Hubby and I drove in this morning. Luckily for us it soon cleared to a blue sky, lots of sun and a bit of a breeze.

We dropped a car off that needed some attention and spent our day round the Botanical gardens, lunched at the Boatsheds before walking round the CBD and discovering the new container mall. People were lying on the grass beside the Avon river, picnicing or lapping up the sun, some enjoying a punt while others were shopping at the new mall. There were buskers about, a few uni students and many tourists. I felt the city was buzzing on this fine day down in the CBD.

Yes, there was the chugg of machinery in the background slowly clearing and there were many workers dismantling stone buildings and putting the stone into labelled containers to be used for restoration, but we also saw scaffolding coming down after wooden buildings had been painted. It is pretty grim but there is also some good - depending which way down the road you look.

A great day spent in Christchurch city :)
