Wave below the Brough of Deerness

I went into the little quarry at Grindigar which has been turned into a garden. It is attractive to small birds and a good place to check for migrants. There weren't any small birds today but instead there were three long-eared owls. The owner, who lives nearby, turned up and said that there'd been up to five recentlly. No chance of a photo as they were very skittish.

I walked along to the Mull Head reserve and watched a peregrine as I had my coffee in the lee of a cliff while enormous rollers broke on the rocks below.

In this photo I was trying to catch the light as it hit the curl of the wave. You can just see the remains of the old chapel on the top. Read about it here.
