Fungus

Not sure what this is - maybe some kind of puffball - please let me know if I'm right or wrong.

Had another look at this today, and I'm now fairly sure it's an earth star - you just can't see the star part of it very well in this photo. Here's a picture where you can see the star better. Earth star seems a romantic name for a dried eyeball saying "OOOohhhhhh!" (see below).

Seems an odd time of year for fungi, but the weather doesn't know what it's doing, so how can the plants etc know?
