Safety first

Evening all

Nightshift again tonight.......so shhhhhh......this is work .....anyone asks you!!!

Slept till 2pm today, made tea then off to work .....life just doesn't get anymore exciting than this !!! Finish at 7am....home to get the car in for its MOT......gulp!!!! ;0)

Not much chance for a blip today so many many apologies...but here's a story....a wee one !!! ;0)

This is our Mantra, so to speak, at work....basically everyone goes home in the same condition they arrived in or better, no damage to anything.....wham bam thank you Mam...safely on your way!!!

No ship or workers on tonight so nice and quiet...but yesterday, the ship calls up as they want to do some work on a vent. Thats ok as long as no tools involved as we were loading her, so for safety reasons we restrict everything. I said yes...off you go, no problem with that EXCEPT your man doing the work has to wear a safety harness and be hooked on whilst doing the work as its quite high up.

The said worker appears...heads to the worksite...safety harness on ....good start. We ask them to 'hook on' so if they fall from height they wont fall very far, can find there footing or be assisted and all is ok .......!! NOT if your last nights guy who hooked up to the deck of the ship then climbed the ladder where he was going to work !!!!!!!!! Where did he think he was going to fall to !!!!

I called up and said " you need to hook onto the ladder next to you so if you fall your ok"
"Its ok" he says " I fall onto deck...be ok !!!"
Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

Work stopped !!! ;0)

Ok ....better go get coffee....this 'work' is hard going !!!
