Boomtown China

Minghua Ship "The World I Want"

The landlocked Minghua ship will be the centre piece of Shekou's massive renovation work. The dream is it will be "The World I Want" as you may see on the wall.

In the foreground there used to be reasonably priced driving range and in the background is Nanshan (South Mountain). From which this district of Shenzhen takes its name and just to the left you're able to see the unimpressive International Finance Centre.

Behind the ship is Hai Shang Shi Jie (Sea World) with lots of bars and restaurants. Sea World, a Chinese colleague informed me, is a very historic place in modern Chinese history. Sea World was the very first place in the whole of China to open to the world under, President, Deng Xiaoping's Open Door Policy and thereafter Shenzhen became China's first Special Economic Zone (SEZ)

Why Sea World? There's oil and gas out there in the South China Sea!
