Five Trees and a Winter Sky

"And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything." - William Shakespeare

Winter has its unique beauties. One of them is that it reveals the true shapes of trees.

Unadorned. No leaf, no frill, no greenery here. No spring flower, no trilling, joyful bird.

Winter trees speak plainly. They talk of the truth of things. Of honesty, of full disclosure, of nothing hidden. Of the beauty of shape and pattern and reach.

Just branch and trunk beneath a gray winter sky.
