Here's looking at you!

Today we decided to leave Dubai and drive the 140km to Al Ain to visit the zoo. It's a great place: really well laid out with lots of brilliant vantage points. The white tiger is an amazing sight (the main reason for going) and I'm fairly sure he knows it. He sat proudly and in full view, as if lapping up the attention. I've also fallen in love with Meerkats, they're super cute and much smaller in real life than expected. But what totally blew me away today over and above everything else, were the vultures. Amazing creatures. Who knew?! And absolutely massive - their wingspan is seriously impressive, and they are intimidating to the core. Another fascination of the day were the Arabian Wolves - as we were checking them out, the call to prayer started up from the Mosque in the zoo, and one by one, each of the 15 or so wolves starting howling. Quite an incredible thing to witness.
