Ugli Bonnet

Today I've been sewing... all day...

This is one of my projects, I'm making a replica Ugli Bonnet.. It's a type of hat, which used to be worn by women out in the fields, to protect their complexions from the sun... it's called an Ugli because you look like a plonker when you wear it... the front pulls right over, resembling a dead armadillo and it's not particularly attractive.

This is going to form part of a kids dressing up area, in the new museum in Haddington, part of East Lothian Council museums...

It's quite interesting as I've had to work it out as I go along, I've seen old photos and I've had a look at a folded one in our stores, but I'm generally making it up as I sew... fortunately it's now starting to take shape...
