Black redstart: Poundbury # 8

These gorgeous birds are common town birds in continental Europe, but quite a rare breeder in Britain. The tail and rump are flame-red, and the bird always quivers its tail when it perches. There are more here in winter, often frequenting scrubby patches of semi-industrial wasteground, such as here.

This was actually right next to the new Little Waitrose shop, which I blipped a couple of weeks ago. The bird frequents the builders compound on the edge of the North East quadrant of the Poundbury site, which will be the next part to be developed.
