The Generation Gap

It's funny watching TV adverts when you come back to the UK after a long time in the Middle East. Out there, 99% of all adverts are for 4x4 cars. The other 1% belongs to things like 'milk' and 'washing powder' which invariably feature a blissfully happy muslim woman smiling at her painfully cute muslim child whilst saying 'hello' (asalam alaykum) and 'thankyou' (shukran) and other polite pleasantries whilst a pint of milk or some washing powder sits on the table.

Here in the UK, my attention was captured by the quite astonshing marketing skills of Nintendo with an advert featuring Patrick Stewart and Julie Christie playing Brain Training on the DS. Not the most sophisticated advert in the world, but just look at what my 69 year old Mum is now doing after asking what my 'little black box' did.

Amazing.
